1800 Tequila Launches ‘1800 Visionaries’ Cocktail Competition

1800 Tequila want to take one visionary bartender to Mexico

Enoc Perez: Essential 1800® Artist Series

The ‘1800 Visionaries Cocktail Competition’ is inspired by the forthcoming launch of the 1800 Tequila Essential Artist Series.

Inspiration

This year 1800 Tequila are collaborating with visionary artist Enoc Perez, best known for his paintings of modernist buildings that nostalgically capture the optimism that inspired their construction.

Enoc’s work for 1800 Tequila features six iconic buildings from across the world, including London’s ‘Gherkin’.

The cocktail competition is inspired by the world of architecture, and in particular, the utopian worlds they attempt to transport their inhabitants to.

Task

Bartenders across the UK will be tasked with creating a cocktail for the inhabitants of an iconic building (either real or fictional).

1800 Tequila want to test bartender’s conceptual skills as well as their bartending skills so not only will they need to think about the drink itself – its ingredients, taste, appearance and garnish but they will also need to consider the journey or experience that they wish the inhabitants of the building to have when enjoying the cocktail.

Bartenders will need to:

Entry Example

Name: Jonah Willburg
Position & Bar: Bartender at Skandi Bar
Iconic Building: The Grand Budapest Hotel
Profile of cocktail: A burst of citrus, followed by a smokiness created by using 1800 tequila infused with lapsang souchong tea and finished with chocolate bitters.
The experience: I would check my drinker into the Grand Budapest Hotel. On the first sip of the cocktail they experience a clean hit of fresh air from snowy peaks, followed by the comforting warmth inside of open fires, polished silver and luxury service. There’s a hint of the bittersweet chocolate on the pillow and the nostalgic notes of well-worn leather luggage.
